Position: Digital Marketing Manager (PART TIME; 20-30 HOURS/WEEK)

Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, the VIA Institute on Character is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the science of character strengths to the world. To fuel our mission, we are seeking a digital marketing manager to drive engagement with our free survey and tools, and purchase of our online products and services. The Digital Marketing Manager will report to Director and be responsible for the day-to-day development and execution of email, website and other digital marketing initiatives. This role is a new opportunity to join an inspiring global nonprofit that is poised for digital expansion. A creative and savvy digital marketer will make his/her presence felt early and often. This position will have a strong focus on digital marketing campaigns and tools that assist in building brand perception, purchase and loyalty, driving market growth across channels and optimizing customer experience.


  • Lead execution of Digital Marketing campaigns via online, email, social and/or other media with in-house and external partners.

  • Execute monthly email and behavior-triggered email campaigns—including planning, building scheduling and optimizing (A/B testing, segmentation)

  • Create and manage loyalty email program.

  • Lead the daily management and ongoing updates to the website through a CMS, including acting as liaison with developers on bugs.

  • Own website personalization strategy and integration with email.

  • Provide oversight of social media strategy and execution by external partners, including paid social

  • Contribute to digital marketing measurement through organization’s analytics dashboard, and use data to improve future efforts.

  • Ongoing, team up with external partners (Data Analyst, Marketing Strategist) to identify opportunities to test, learn and optimize new and better solutions to digital marketing.

  • As needed, develop landing page and/or paid search campaigns to support digital product sales.

  • Contribute insights to monthly email, blog and social media content briefs.

  • Maintain an understanding of competitors’ digital marketing activity.

Key Skills:

  • Ability and willingness to take on a variety of roles from leader to strategic contributor to tactical implementer in a lean organization with limited infrastructure.

  • High level of technical knowledge in digital disciplines, including email marketing, marketing automation, website, SEO/SEM, and digital strategy development.

  • Foundational understanding of related areas, including paid/organic social media, eCRM, database marketing and analytics.

  • Familiarity with a breadth of website, email and CRM platforms and tools.

  • Keep up with trends and technology that can advance the organization’s digital approach.

  • Think holistically about the customer experience and user journey, from awareness and consideration to purchase, retention and advocacy.

  • Excellent organizational, prioritization and time-management skills with a high attention to detail.

  • Possess the skills to take a big idea/concept, break it down into the tactical steps for implementation and follow through with execution.

  • Strong enthusiasm, creativity and self-motivation to explore business challenges and propose solutions.

Minimum Position Qualfications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Marketing, Communications or related field

  • 3-5 years work experience in digital marketing

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, website content management systems, CRM systems and online project management tools like Trello
