United Way - Cincinnati Preschool Promise

Position: Marketing and Community Engagement Manager

In November 2016, voters in Cincinnati approved a new tax levy that will fund a preschool expansion with the hopes of eventually extending quality preschool availability to all Cincinnati families. Cincinnati Preschool Promise (CPP) was created to manage many of the processes that will be necessary to execute this expansion in preschool coverage. CPP is looking for a Marketing & Community Engagement Manager to coordinate CPP communications and outreach activities.

The Marketing & Community Engagement Manager will lead CPP’s efforts to engage with the community and partner with community organizations to spread the reach and awareness of CPP programs. This role is both marketing manager and relationship cultivator with community partners. The role will be full-time requiring 40+ hours per week. The Marketing & Community Engagement Manager will report to the Executive Director and will coordinate with other staff on the team.


  • Create and manage a coordinated community engagement plan

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and partnership organizations

  • Identify opportunities for new partnerships to further CPP mission

  • Identify and attend community events and meetings at which CPP could participate in or present, keeping key audiences and messages in mind

  • Grow awareness throughout the Cincinnati community about CPP

  • Work with Outreach and Enrollment Manager to manage the Promise Team to expand outreach and community engagement capacity

  • Ensure development of all CPP marketing materials and collateral to increase brand awareness and support outreach activities

  • Monitor the marketing and community engagement budget to ensure appropriate spending on materials

  • Create strategy for media relations and press releases

  • Ensure marketing materials are developed with all potential audiences in mind, including developing Spanish-language communications

  • Work collaboratively with Cincinnati Public Schools' Chief Communications and Engagement Officer to present a unified view of the achievements of our two organizations

  • Lead Communications Engagement Committee

  • Lead the creation of the annual Report To The Community


  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred; ideal candidates will have a degree relating to communications, marketing or a related field

  • Strong candidates will have 5+ years of experience in community engagement, community organizing and/or grassroots marketing

  • Cultural fluency and ability to interact with people of all backgrounds; bilingual in Spanish and English a plus

  • Ability to implement and manage multiple projects at one time

  • Ability to work collaboratively

  • Ability to field inquiries and manage customer relations with a high level of customer service  

  • Excellent written and communication skills

  • Extensive experience producing marketing and communications materials

  • Knowledge of relevant Cincinnati communications channels through which to propagate information relating to CPP programs

  • Knowledge of relevant Cincinnati community organizations to target for partnership

  • Enthusiasm for the CPP mission of expanding quality preschool coverage

  • Experience in Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint) and Google applications
