Sister Rose Ann's magic PR touch: Register today to find out more

By Lauren Doyle

What do public relations and basketball have in common? Find out for yourself at PRSA Cincinnati Chapter's June 3 luncheon, featuring Sister Rose Ann Fleming, SND de N, athlete academic adviser to the men's basketball team at Xavier University.

Sister Rose Ann -- who is perhaps best known for helping every senior on the Xavier men's basketball team earn their degree since she took the post as athlete adviser in 1985 -- has been featured on the Today Show and in the New York Times, among others. She's also the subject of a new book, "Out of Habit," which shares some of her secrets to success: listen, accept, believe, care and never give up.

Sound familiar? It should! Those are some of the same skills PR practitioners use daily when working with colleagues, clients and the media.

Sister Rose Ann will present her perspective, Public Relations and Basketball: They're Not So Different After All  from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at the Cintas Center at Xavier University. She will be joined by Gary R. Massa, vice president of university relations; Sister Rita Sturwold, SND de N, a close friend and longtime associate; and Jamal Walker, an XU Hall of Famer and Princeton High School varsity basketball coach.

The luncheon is an opportunity to recognize a Cincinnati legend who, although not a public relations practitioner, has used elements of PR to bring positive awareness and build a strong reputation for the city and Xavier University. Known as the Presidents Award, it is the highest honor Cincinnati PRSA can bestow on a non-public relations professional.

Register today to hear Sister Rose Ann and others share their recollections during the 2015 Presidents Award ceremony. A limited number of early bird tickets are available for a discounted price!
