One never knows what kind of great collaborations will come from a PRSA lunch. Case in point, during the December lunch at the Horseshoe Casino, I sat next to an unfamiliar face and struck up the typical networking conversation.
“I’m Bridget and I work at HCDC. Where do you work?”
Shara Clark, an instructor at Miami University, replied that besides teaching PR to Miami students, she also was the incoming president of the PRSA Cincinnati Chapter.
I felt a little sheepish that I didn’t know she was talking over the helm (I obviously need to attend more PRSA events); however, she was easy to talk to and soon we were sharing work stories.
Shara was currently looking for business owners who her strategic communications students could interview for their capstone projects in PR and marketing.
As soon as she said she was looking for new companies, I had a lightbulb moment.
Working for Hamilton County Development Co. (an economic development company that also has a business incubator), I had access to 64 current resident companies -- making it the largest business incubator in the State of Ohio.
We joined forces and her students are now highlighting four of our startup companies: Epstein Educational Enterprises, RiskAware, myActions LLC and Protostar Engineering.
The students will present their projects in May and our startup companies will have access to a wealth of communication strategies to consider while they grow their companies. I can’t wait to see the final presentations.
It only took a few minutes of networking to lead to this partnership that will enhance our entrepreneurial ecosystem in Greater Cincinnati.
Thanks, Shara! It was great sitting next to you!
