NOV 15 - The 2018 Blacksmith Awards

Eventbrite - 2018 Blacksmith Awards

The Blacksmith finalists have been announced and now it's time to celebrate the best public relations work in Greater Cincinnati in the past year!

And as if that wasn't enough, we'll also be toasting:

  • Jonathan Kissell, APR, Communications Manager at Rumpke Waste & Recycling, the 2018 Werner-Vonderhaar-Bogart Award recipient for his outstanding leadership in the field of public relations, and his dedication to Cincinnati PRSA.

  • The 2018 President's Award Recipient

Register today for the 2018 Blacksmith Awards ceremony and dinner.

This year, we are celebrating at the brand new Summit, a Dolce Hotel. The Summit, located on the Medpace campus at Interstate 71 and Red Bank Road, is a stunning space with commissioned works of contemporary artists throughout the hotel.

Thanks to our Blacksmiths Awards Platinum Sponsor, Kroger.  In honor of their Zero Hunger Zero Waste campaign, we invite all PRSA members and guests to bring nonperishable food items (no glass, please) to the Awards Dinner on Nov. 15 to benefit the Freestore Foodbank. Click here to see what food items are most needed.  Want to make a financial contribution instead?  Donate here: http://freestorefoodbank.org/cincinnati-prsa.  All those who donate will be entered into a raffle for a one night stay at the Summit Hotel.  Thanks to the Summit Hotel for their support.

So, no excuses! Join us as we toast our friends and colleagues in style at the Summit, and help the Freestore Foodbank as well!

Tickets are now on sale through Monday, Nov. 5 at 5:00 p.m. Get yours today!

This event (formerly New Pros Present: Transitioning from PR) still focuses on the same content, but we want everyone to know it is geared toward those in all stages of their PR career, highlighting the journey of 3 PR professionals at Bon Secours Mercy Health. We've also extended the registration deadline to Monday, October 29 at 5:00 p.m.

Join us for coffee, pastries and an action-packed morning, brought to you by the New Pros!
All from Bon Secours Mercy Health, Debbie Copeland-Bloom, APR, (Director, Executive Communications), Maureen Richmond, APR (Senior Director, Integrated Communications) and Mike Boehmer, APR (Digital Marketing Manager) will present their PR / Communications backgrounds, how they transitioned into PR, what their roles are today and career learnings and tips they've achieved along the way.

Debbie Copeland Bloom.jpg

Debbie Copeland-Bloom, APR
Director, Executive Communications, Bon Secours Mercy Health

Deb's 30-year PR career has been in the health care and managed care fields and included positioning and communicating about the closing of a hospital, taking a non-profit to for-profit status and its eventual sale, and "routine" events such as reductions in force, leadership changes and introductions of new programs, services and/or processes. A passionate proponent of accreditation, Deb has served as the Cincinnati chapter's APR and ethics chairs. She was the 2013 recipient of the chapter's Werner-VonderHaar-Bogart Award and this summer earned PRSA's Reputation Risk Management certificate.

Maureen Richmond
Senior Director, Integrated Communications, Bon Secours Mercy Health

Over the last 20 years, Maureen Richmond has facilitated corporate communications and public relations for the largest provider of healthcare in Ohio, managed crisis response for the largest provider of passenger transportation in North America, served as lead speechwriter for the CEO of a major insurance company and worked with national media to promote the world's largest seasonal theme park.

She currently serves as senior director, Integrated Communications, for Bon Secours Mercy Health. In this role, she leads a talented team of internal and external communicators responsible for all executive and employee communications, media relations and reputation management. Mercy Health and Bon Secours recently combined to form one of the 20 largest health care systems in the country, so we'll add integration communications to that list as well!

Richmond has served as membership chair and job bank chair for the Cincinnati Chapter of PRSA. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family including husband Tim and three very active children, Joseph (9 ½), Jack (8) and June Marie (6 ½).

Mike Boehmer.jpg

Mike Boehmer, APR
Digital Marketing Manager, Bon Secours Mercy Health

Mike Boehmer is a public relations, communications and marketing and professional. He has more than 25 years of experience leading and executing successful internal and external programs at an international tech company, urban government social services agency and large health system. He also served as a journalist for 12 years before entering public relations.

Boehmer has served in various Cincinnati PRSA leadership positions, including chapter president in 2004. He represented the chapter as a delegate at several national assemblies. He most-recently led a task force charged with researching and developing recommendations for demonstrating value of PRSA membership.

He has received more than 40 journalism and public relations awards from PRSA, IABC, SPJ and others. He was named Hamilton County Employee of the Year for Innovation and awarded the New Media Cincinnati Digital Native Award. He also received Cincinnati PRSA's Werner-VonderHaar-Bogart Award for service to the community and profession.

Boehmer received a Bachelor of Science in Journalism degree from Ohio University. He is the father of a 19-year-old daughter, Chrissy, who is majoring in biology at Indiana University with a goal of becoming a physician assistant.
