Position: Special Events Manager
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, creative and resourceful event manager to join our team. This is a full time position offering health insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, and other benefits. The work schedule is flexible to accommodate the requirements of the duties.
As the event manager at Junior Achievement of OKI Partners, Inc., you will be responsible for maintaining our annual schedule of fun fundraising events that are vital to the financial sustainability of the organization. These include a clay shoot and wine tasting in May, two golf tournaments in August, and a slate of corporate bowling events that occur throughout the year at various companies.
Our large events have established planning committees made up of volunteers to help you design the event, make decisions, and promote attendance. You will need to manage and grow these committees to assure ongoing success. You will also have the resources of our staff to work with you to develop promotional material and help with event logistics.
The right candidate will be very well-organized and experienced in vendor management, have an outgoing and positive attitude, be comfortable with public speaking, have excellent writing and communication skills, pay attention to detail, and demonstrate good time management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate with JA senior staff to set event goals and create and manage the event budget.
Manage, maintain and build existing event committees to continuously improve the quality and success of each event.
Source all necessary venues and vendors, and negotiate to achieve the most favorable terms.
Manage associated contracts, payments and deliverables.
Solicit sponsors and in-kind donations, and manage sponsor recognition commitments.
Work with our design and communications professionals to create and distribute invitations and promotional materials.
Activate and maintain the digital invitation process and online registration.
Manage all event operations (set venue, schedule of activities, food, drinks, gift bags, volunteers, etc.)
Manage and grow relationships with our corporate bowling coordinators while encouraging and supporting them as they recruit co-workers to participate in bowling events.
Recruit new companies to the bowling program.
Provide JA presence at corporate bowling events.
Evaluate each event’s success and submit reports.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
A track record to planning successful events that met or exceeded goals.
A degree or coursework in hospitality management, public relations or a relevant field is preferred.
Must be proficient and experienced in Microsoft Office.
Candidate should possess a strong work ethic and be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle transportation required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
Candidate should be able lift up to 20 lbs in order to transport and arrange event materials.
