Starting Salary:

$58,052 - $81,328/annually


  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, marketing or English

  • Six (6) years of media, journalism, marketing or communication experience

Job Duties:

  • Manages the day-to-day operation of the public information/ communications program; plans and administers overall public information/communications program involving the preparation and dissemination of educational and informational material reflecting department activities and operations; generates news stories, press releases, press kits, newsletters; Prepares and develops web and social media content to support and enhance the agency’s brand and operations. Monitors, posts to, and analyzes social media channels to build a community of followers and enhance interaction. advises and consults with department director and staff regarding public information campaigns and activities, and impact of proposed or actual policies and decisions; may assist Appointing Authorities and Elected Officials with communication activities; serves as part of leadership team and plays a strategic role in agency planning, budget process, etc.; provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to agency director; establishes and interprets agency-wide program policy, procedures and objectives.

  • Supervises public relations staff (e.g., schedules, assigns and reviews work, evaluates performance, instructs new personnel, recommends personnel actions, etc.); assists employees with complex or difficult assignments.

  • Performs various public relations activities to provide technical advice and increase public awareness (e.g., develops, prepares, proofs and issues news releases, alerts media to issues of public interest, responds to other requests for information, attends speaking engagements, public hearings, various meetings, delivers speeches and give presentations, etc.); conducts programs which provide direct contact with public; writes and edits agency publications; directs preparation of and edits newsletters; updates and/or manages website; prepares special projects.

  • Serves as resource person for information on positive public presentation of department programs and activities, researches and responds to inquiries and request for information (e.g., written inquiries, telephone requests for speeches and/or presentations), delivers speeches and gives presentations; provides consultation and performs layout and design work on publications, reports, articles and/or newsletter and produces video presentations.

  • Sets up news conferences and interviews and serves as point of contact with media.
