Position: Senior Manager, Employee Communications

First Group America is currently hiring for a Senior Manager, Employee Communications. As an integral member of the Corporate Communications Team, this position is responsible for planning and executing employee communication plans and programs to support the First Student, First Transit and Shared Services organizations.

Key priorities for this role include: develop and manage internal communication strategies for senior executives; develop key messages and content; manage internal communication channels including, but not limited to, events, e-newsletters, webinars, employee mobile apps, and portal (intranet) pages; and counsel c-suite and other leaders on how to effectively communicate with and engage diverse audiences of employees with business opportunities, priorities and goals.

This role works under the guidance of and in collaboration with the Senior Director of Corporate Communications. The position has discretion in functional decision-making and the exercise of independent judgment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and execute comprehensive, measurable employee communications programs that support near-term business priorities and long-term growth objectives, refining when necessary to address specific opportunities and challenges.

  • Leverage both traditional and digital media as a means to drive company culture as well as employee engagement and alignment.

  • Develop strong relationships with leaders at First Student, First Transit and Shared Services to understand business objectives and priorities and align work with those objectives.

  • Plan and coordinate employee communication initiatives, including events and webinars.

  • Oversee, manage and grow the First Student Connect Employee communication app.

  • Generate and/or edit written and visual content for a variety of communications executions, including organizational announcements, events, executive communications/presentations, and the portal (intranet).

  • Counsel executives on how to communicate in a manner that engages employees.

  • Work in concert with the members of the North American Corporate Communications and Marketing team and the UK Group Communications team to develop a comprehensive approach to building the brand and exceeding business objectives.

  • Manage and develop team to continue to grow as strategic counselors and trusted advisors.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Public Relations or similar field.

  • 8-10 years of communications experience

  • Management experience

  • Master of written and oral communications

  • Working knowledge and willingness to embrace of various visual forms of communication, including infographics and video

  • Experience in creating and executing communications strategies and plans

  • Knowledge of B2B communications and a passion for growing an established brand within the industry

  • Strong interpersonal skills; high level of professionalism

  • Ability to work with and represent all levels of organization, from senior executive to front-line employees

  • Strong organizational and project management skills

  • Advanced working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to work within a team environment

  • Ability to meet deadlines and exceed expectations

  • Skill in evaluating audience needs and using a communications style and voice that best suits the needs
