Position: Internal Communications Manager

First Group America is currently hiring for an Internal Communications Manager.  This role is responsible for working together with the Corporate Communications/Marketing team and business partners to advance information sharing across our enterprise, nurture our employee community and develop increased connectivity amongst our widespread enterprise.

The position manages the company’s internal communications editorial calendar and edits, writes and produces internal communications for First America (First Student/First Transit). Additionally, he/she is responsible for creating and distributing publications aligned to key strategic initiatives.

Research has proven that employee engagement delivers improved business performance. She/he will be part of a team dedicated to strengthening and improving employee engagement and culture.

He/she will be responsible for providing communication counsel and support to division leadership, most notably with First Transit. This includes developing and supporting the First Transit leadership communication platform. 

The role reports to the Senior Manager of Employee Communications.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build aDay-to-day management of internal publications. Edit, create and manage distribution of company-wide weekly newsletters. Work with internal partners in a project management role to generate content to drive employee engagement.

  • Develop strong working relationships with leaders, most notably at First Transit, to understand business objectives and priorities and align communications with those objectives.

  • Generate and/or edit written and visual content for a variety of communications executions, including organizational announcements, events, executive communications/presentations, and the portal (intranet).

  • Counsel executives, most notably at First Transit, on how to communicate in a manner that engages employees. Develop and implement communication plans to support executive platforms and senior management needs.

  • Author content aimed at improving employees’ understanding of First’s vision, values, business results and competitive landscape. Tell stories that bring First’s vision/values to life through the perspective of employees and teams across the company. Work to position First as a great company and an employer of choice.

  • Leverage both traditional and digital media as a means to drive company culture as well as employee engagement and alignment.

  • Provide day-to-day management of the company intranet/Sharepoint Portal and offer support to content owners. Work with key business partners/content owners/authors to update/maintain information on the site and manage requests from across the business to post/modify information as needed.

  • Provide tactical support for list management and directory updates.

  • Provide support for Group-wide initiatives such as Your Voice and the Be First Awards.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to FirstGroup vision and values.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, English, journalism, marketing or related discipline.

  • Five or more years of demonstrated experience within Public Relations, Marketing, Corporate Communications, Communications or related field.

  • Superior writing skills, an ability to simplify concepts and to tailor messaging for specific audiences

  • Advanced working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Strong verbal communication skills, collaboration and influencing skills

  • Working knowledge and willingness to embrace various visual forms of communication, including infographics and video

  • High degree of professionalism and strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization

  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills

  • Project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities at once

  • Ability to manage and meet deadlines and quickly changing priorities to deliver measurable results as part of a fast-paced, dynamic team

  • Ability to work independently, managing projects with minimal direction

  • Strong sense of urgency, ownership and personal responsibility

  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and integrity

  • A positive, can-do attitude with the ability to work well both independently and as member of a team

  • An ability to thrive in a high-growth, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

  • Familiarity with AP style a plus
