Cooperative for Education Seeks PR Help

Cooperative for Education (or CoEd for short) is a Cincinnati- and Guatemala City-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit aiming to help Guatemalan schoolchildren break the cycle of poverty through education. They are realizing that they’re one of those “best kept secret” nonprofits and want to change that by getting the word out to a wider audience about their mission and work. CoEd is looking for help from a PR professional who could help with advice, contacts, and writing press releases. Please contact Ann Dempsey, with Cooperative for Education, at ann.dempsey@coeduc.org or 513-293-2893.

PR News Around Town

Volunteers needed to speak to Journalism and PR class

Public relations professionals are needed this fall to speak to Journalism and PR students at Cincinnati Christian University, about their experiences and offer expert advice. Classes meet on Thursdays from 3:20 to 4:40 p.m. and 4:45 to 6 p.m. Contact Ginny McCabe at 513-604-6720 for more information.

Give Back Cincinnati is Recruiting YPs for Communications Committee

Give Back Cincinnati – the city’s largest, all-volunteer young professional organization – is now recruiting for its 2012 communications committee. The organization is known in the community for planning and executing large-scale, single-day volunteer events for young professionals aged 21 and older. These events range from hands-on community clean-ups, to visiting nursing homes, to painting 50 homes in a single day through its Paint the Town effort. More information can be found on the organization’s website at www.givebackcincinnati.org.

The communications committee essentially serves as the public relations and marketing firm for Give Back Cincinnati, and is responsible for a wide range of marketing and public relations activities, including:

writing newsletter articles;

organizing media presence at events;

maintaining the flow of information between committees and the larger organization;

managing and programming the website;

designing event support materials (t-shirts, fliers, etc.);

photographing events; and

communications with members.

A wide variety of roles are available, depending on what volunteers are most interested in doing. In addition, and because the organization is staffed entirely by volunteers, communications committee members experience a great deal of freedom, flexibility and immediate hands-on experience in their roles.

If you or someone you know would be interested in learning more about this opportunity, or would like to apply for a role on the committee, please contact Cincinnati PRSA member (and Give Back Cincinnati Communications Director) Lauren Doyle at communications@givebackcincinnati.org. You could also attend an info session that will offer a broad overview of Give Back Cincinnati and all of its 2012 leadership positions this coming Sunday, October 9  at 11:00 a.m.
