Welcome to PR Visions Cincinnati Chapter Newsletter.

Note from the Editor

We are half way through the year and summer usually brings many outdoor activities and fun campaigns for our organizations and clients, keeping us PR professionals extremely busy. Be sure to reward yourselves and submit your work to be considered for the prestigious Blacksmith Awards, which will be awarded this November at the annual Blacksmith Awards Banquet.

Our chapter is also looking to bestow its highest honor, the Werner-VonderHarr-Bogart (WVB) Award, on one deserving chapter member. The WVB award recognizes the recipient for their service to the Chapter, the community, society and the profession. Be sure to nominate a worthy candidate by June 17 to Kevin Dugan at

Kevin.dugan@empowermm.com.

Hopefully, you all have and will continue to enjoy reading PR Visions each month to find out what’s new on the Cincinnati PR landscape and remember to pass it along to other pros in the field. Perhaps you will even consider submitting some news of your own.

Happy reading,

Brandy Jones

Blacksmith Highlight
Mark your calendar for the 2011 Blacksmith Awards Ceremony on November 16 at The Madison Event Center, and look for program entry information soon!

Each month leading up to the annual Blacksmith Awards Ceremony, we’ll highlight one of last year’s winners and share a tip from the entrant that can help you with your 2011 entries.

Blacksmith Award winner for Integrated Marketing Campaign:

Northlich: Powerball Comes to Ohio

Northlich’s Powerball campaign, Play Big – Win Big, aimed to show Gamers and Dreamers how to play this highly-anticipated game and build awareness statewide through TV, print, digital and word of mouth. Powerball was new to Ohioans, so the campaign needed to explain how to play and demonstrate all the ways people can win in a fun and engaging way. Each creative platform served a different purpose, but collectively told the story of Powerball coming to Ohio.

The centerpiece of the integrated campaign was a microsite that featured an interactive tutorial showing the nine ways to win. The campaign also included television spots in key markets, point of purchase and marketing collateral for retailers, flash mobs, traditional media outreach and in-market installations on buildings and high traffic venues.

Record tickets sales were reported after the first weekend and the campaign received millions of media impressions with broadcast coverage in key markets throughout the state. The microsite boasted more than 79,000 visits in just two weeks and continued to serve as the main portal for all things Powerball.

Blacksmith Award Winner Tip:

Don’t be afraid to submit an entry that doesn’t completely revolve around PR. Even though Powerball Comes to Ohio was a fully integrated campaign, PR and Buzz Building did the heavy lifting to fulfill the campaign’s objectives.

What you can learn about digital media from Lady Gaga

By Amy Jacques

Public Relations Tactics, May 27, 2011

ThinkTank Digital served as pop superstar Lady Gaga’s digital agency of record for two-and-a-half years ending in November 2010.  The New York-based digital media agency, co-founded in 2006 by chief executive officer Tynicka Battle and chief officer of operations Amina Elshahawi, develops and executes plans to maximize online exposure for brands.

The agency specializes in social media promotions, online brand awareness, and application design and promotions.

Learn how you can generate the same online excitement that propelled Lady Gaga into the social spotlight.  — Amy Jacques

Talk about some of your social media efforts for Lady Gaga during your two-and-a-half year campaign — and their success.

At the start of  Lady Gaga’s digital campaign, ThinkTank was responsible for building awareness of Lady Gaga’s name, her music (along with various videos, performances, TV show appearances) and her tours (at this time, she started touring with New Kids on the Block).

Twitter and Facebook were not priorities, as they were not the leading social networks. It was all about Myspace at that time.

Both served as hubs for all Gaga-related media and were the platforms we utilized to engage her fans/followers.

We worked closely with Myspace to secure home page features, in turn increasing her friend count there — that would eventually translate into high Facebook and  Twitter numbers as people made the transition from Myspace.

Then our efforts to engage and interact through promotions, apps and widgets became almost entirely focused on Facebook and Twitter in 2009.
